Luna Lux: Draft 7

This is what our music video looks like so far, from draft 6 we have added the overlay shots in the second part where there is the reverse; we added this to help split up that section to make it more interesting for the viewer.

We have shown this to our teacher and they think that the time lapse shot doesn't quite fit in with the rest of the video as it is in a completely different location to the rest of the music video, this means that we may have to go back and brainstorm to think up with different ideas of what we could do to replace that shot.

Title no.2

This is the second idea that we had for our music video. We thought that this title would flow better with the music video than the projector one, as it goes straight into the music video while the other one has to change shot which takes longer. We went wound and showed the two different opening titles to our target audience and they preferred the projector as it brings the vintage side of our artist out.

The progression of the Title

This was the first title that we thought about creating. We first wanted something that would fit in with the video and the artist’s star image that is when we came up with the idea of having an old projector that is all grainy to give it an old fashion look. This would fit in with the artist star image because, it’s very individual and vintage which is what she is all about. We create this on Adobe After effects.

This is what the title looked like before we added any effects to it.

This is the second’s part where we added in the rounded square to make it look like a projector. Also we added the grain and scratches to make it look old. I searched to find out how to create this effect and surprisingly it was quite easy.

Adding the spinning screen on to this title was quite hard as I didn’t quite understand how to do, so I had to experiment a little to work out myself what I needed to do to get it to do this effect. From using Offset I was able to create this effect.

This is what the title looks like when it was finished, we sped up the title spinning round to make it look more believable. However from adding this to our music video, it didn’t quite flow very well as it was a completely different which meant that it was quite jittery. Also I thought that it looked like more of a film production logo than a music video title. This means that we need to create a title which it slightly more subtle and will flow better with the music video, for it to be more effective.

Merchandise

These are all the merchandise that we have created so far. We have planned to create more, as it will look better on the website.  From our research to indie artist it seems very common to have a pillow/cushion as part of their merchandise, which means that we can help our artist become well known for the type of genre that she is. There are three different pillows which allow the customers to have a choice between the three to pick the best on they like. There is a grey top that also comes in white which is the normal Luna Lux top, with the picture of the artist on it. We chose this picture as we thought that it really helped to add to the artists star image, as the flowers are the only thing in colour. Next we have a guitar pick, we thought about have three different kinds that the consumers will want to collect, which will help them to keep coming back to the page to find out which pick has been released.  Then we have a very typical artist wrist band with the artist name on it, this will help with marketing as it is something small to get her name out to people that haven’t heard of her yet. This is the same technique used when we created the cold cups, people will use them when they are out and about and other people will see them and will want to know who Luna Lux is.  Lastly we have the two tour tops, which help give a selection to the consumers if they do not like one of them. The first one has the picture of the artist, which helps get her face out to people, while the other is the picture of the cacti and the flower which will add to her artist image, as we are trying to get across that she is different from everyone else.

Website Draft Screen shots

This is the welcome page that will first appear when the audience will access the site. We wanted one as it will help market the music video that we will be releasing. At the moment it is very plain, so to improve this page we will want to maybe have a boarder which will fit with her star image to make the page look a little more interesting.

This is the home page of the site the background is a colour kaleidoscope, we thought that this will help to add to her star image of being quite weird and different. There are links to her social networking sites, such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr, when you click on the button the site will open up. This will help to make the page more interactive and help her fans to keep in touch with her.

This is the about me page where Luna Lux has left a little note to the fans about her and her new album. This is a conventional page to have on a website as it gives the audience a way to get to know the artist more, and feel like they are talking to them. Also the “Luna Lux xoxo” has a transition on that makes it look like she is writing it on, which makes the page look like she actually wrote that.

This is the album page where the audience can listen to her music, as it has all the songs on from her album. The east of eden song will actually play, but as the other songs are not real they do not have any sound to them. We also made a place where there fans can leave their comments below of what they thought of the album.

Next is the social networking site where it has all the feeds coming from her Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This is an easier way for  the audience to see what she is posting and what she is up to, but also helps to make the blog more interactive.

This is the gallery where there are pictures from shooting the video and of the artist, this gives the audience something to look at. When the mouse hovers over the pictures slit the picture become bigger to see all of the picture. This helps the site to become more interactive and makes it more interesting.

This is the merchandise site where they can buy the clothing. When they hover over the picture they can see how much it will cost and when they click on it they can chose the size they want with the design they want. As the size gets bigger the more expensive it is.

This is the inspiration page to make the website different from other websites. This is where she will put her inspirations eg the book and there will be links to listen to her favourite music. This is hopefully making the blog really interactive.

This is the  events page where the audience can see where Luna will be and where she will be playing.

Luna Lux: Draft 5

From draft 4 we added all the new footage that we got from the underwater day. Some of the shots that we did underwater we felt that maybe it was too reviling so we overlaid some shots to make them better.  From these shots it helped to make the longer shots shorter. As we are now happy with what we have so far we can start getting a lot of feedback from our target audience and create a focus group to make sure we get the most out of what we can get out of the. The only problem we have with asking peers from our school to give us feedback for our music video is that they would be too nice as they know us. This means we need to figure out a way that we can get our audiences real opinion about our music video so it can help us move forward.

Behind the scene with Luna lux: Day 3

This behind the scenes just shows how we got some of the underwater shots for the music video. This was a very challenging shooting day as it required physical strength as well, to be able to stay under water for a long time and to track the artist while she is swimming. The girl that plays Luna was an average swimmer which meant that we did have to take frequent breaks so she could get her breath back. Also there was one shot that we wanted to do where she is laying on top of the water lip syncing, but she couldn't lay on top of the water as she found it very hard, this meant that we had to think of a different idea of where she could do it. Overall I do think that it was a very successful shooting day because, we managed to do everything that we planned to do with extra shots so if the ideas that we planned to do didn't look good then we had extra shots that we could use as well.

Tour Dates for the T-Shirt

These are the different Tour Dates styles that we could have on the back of our tops or any other merchandise that we chose to have on our website. We tried the list out in different colours to see what would look the best and suit the genre of the artist.  We went round asking our target audience what they thought would be to have on the back of the top. The most popular choice was black, as this was the most traditional colour to have as a colour. This would help to make our top look more professional, and more attractive to buy for our consumers.
We choose these venues as they are mainly for upcoming artists that are trying to get their name out to potential listeners. Also they are quite small which means that she will be able to invite most of her fans to these gigs. Also they will be cheaper to hire than bigger venues such as Brixton Academy. This suits our artists image as she doesn't want to be seen as a conventional singer that does the same as everyone else, so from her performing in these independent venues it will highlight that part of her image.

Different fonts for EP East of Eden

These are the different fonts that we thought about having for the single of East of Eden.  We picked these six different fonts to choose from as they were very different from the everyday look. Now we need to go and ask are target audience which they prefer and why to see which one we should use.

Different fonts for our Album

These are the fonts to pick from, for our title of Luna Lux's album. We liked these four fonts as they were different from the everyday font that you see on albums, this would help her to stand out more as an artist. From these four we need to pick the best one that fits in with her genre. The most popular one so far with our target audience is the third one, as it is very different and fits with genre.

Luna Lux: Draft 4

Today we have finally finished the basis of the first lot of editing. What my group needs to do now is get feedback of what they like and what needs to be improved, so when we get to our filming days we can add it more which will hopefully make the music video more effective and more successful. Since we have the first basis done it also means that we need to start putting together our Digipak and website.

From draft 3 we got rid of the red effect and changed it to green as, this makes the footage more green and natural.  We have added in footage to get rid of the blank spaces, but still yet to have another filming day. The main things that we put in is the footage that happens after the bridge, this is the whole of the music video in reverse with a ghost effect which helps it to look like a dream.  Now we have a basis from a full music video, now we need to get feedback. From my personal feedback there are shots that are very long and need to be cut down, so my objective for the next editing session will be to shorten them down, which will help to make the video more entertaining and less boring.

Luna Lux: Draft 3

From draft 2 we added an effect called luminosity on to the very first shot which enhances the colour, we did this as we are very happy with it being the first shot. Also across the whole of the video we have added an effect which emphasise the red which helps to make the video look more vintage. We want the video to look vintage as it will help like in with her star image because; this is her first music video so it really needs to establish her as an artist.  On the second shot we have added a light effect which gradually fades in the footage; this will help it not to be so abrupt and looks like an old movie.  Also on the shot where Luna turns round with the candle over lapping her we have added an effect where the first footage splits up into 4 different screens. This helps to really exaggerate that movement and makes it really over the top.  Next we added a time lapse of the clouds over the top of a close up of Luna. This adds to her star image to make her look naturey. Then we added a ghost effect on to the shots of her running as it makes it look jagged. On the fountain shot we added another overlay of a close up of Luna doing the "oh oh oh" as it adds more of the lip syncing to the video.  On the still image of the water we have added an effect which makes it shake like water, as this really goes with the music. When is gets to the second "running in the dark" with e side view of Luna we have added a kaleidoscope on top of the footage which we made in Adobe After effects. We added this as it gives the video more of a concept side and not just performance. We added more footage to the bridge of the song, and there are blank parts in the middle as we need to have another filming day to fill in that time.  To improve would be to fill in the blank spaces.

Looking back at the risk assessment

After filming and looking back at the risk assessment, we managed to make sure that all the risks that we identified were kept at a low, this is shown through how the team and the artist wasn’t injured and didn’t get hurt. This was a success, as if we didn’t make this assessment that maybe we wouldn’t have looked for these hazards, which meant that someone could of got hurt, which would have resulted in our filming time being reduced, which was something that we really wanted to avoided on the second day of shooting as daylight was decreasing fast, which mean that we really needed to make sure that all of our shots were completed. If we were to do it again, maybe we should of had set everything up and walked the artist through what could be dangerous for her, so she knows automatically what to look out for, which will also help to reduce any injuries while filming.

Luna Lux: Draft 2

From daft 1 we haven't changed anything from the first part of the song which is the first verse to the chorus, but we have added more shots to the second verse and the first part of the chorus. We haven't added any major effects to it yet, as we wanted to get all the shots in first  to see what works and what doesn't then when we are happy the effects will go on last, as it will take up a lot of time to keep taking the effects on and off, so we will be wasting time.  To improve what we have I want to get more of the shots on so we have more of a video then to get some feedback to see what our target audience thinks needs improving.

Luna Lux: Good Shots

From our first lot of shooting days theses were the shots that we thought that were good and would like to put in our video. The first shot is of luna and the camera is tracking her with the rose bushes in front of her. We thought that this was a good shots as I liked the way the camera focused on the flowers in front of her instead of the artist, this really emphasised the artists image of being really flowery, also the lighting in the shot was really good as it made Luna's face light up more. The second shot was of Luna running, this shot was good as we really liked it when the bird flew away, I think that it made the shot a lot more interesting.  The time lapse shot of Luna standing in Oxford Street was a shot that we really liked as it really showed her star image of people different from everyone else and standing out. The shot by the water fountain was nice as I really liked how the light hit her. The close up of her face from a low angle was good because it was different from a conventional close up would be of the artist singing. I really liked the shot where Luna blows the powder paint into the camera as this shot allows really playing around with it, for example making it reverse to the video quirky which helps with the concept side of the music video.

Luna Lux: Bad Shots

These are the bad shots that we filmed during our shooting days. The first shot was bad, as the artist forgot the words of the song, which meant that we couldn’t use them, because we needed to show that the artist knows all the words to the song. The second shot is because; the railing of the fence is covering her lips which meant that we cannot see the singing the song.  The next one is because again she forgot the words which meant that we cannot use the shot. The forth shot we didn’t like very much as it cuts off one of the horse head and it shows the fence of the garden which doesn’t make it look very professional.  The powder paints that it thrown over her the first time wasn’t very good as there wasn’t much of an impact that people got from it. When we filmed the next shot we didn’t realise that we were going to cut her cut off when she sat down, which made the shot bad, as it didn’t focus on the artist. The next shot is of her sitting at the table but when she is lip syncing she isn’t very in to it and very emotionless which doesn’t make this part look very good, so we re-filmed it so she got onto it more. The next shot of the horse head isn’t a very nice shot of the horse which doesn’t make the video look appealing, so we wanted to find a different way of showing the horses head. The last shot isn’t very good because, it’s been filmed the wrong way round, which means even if we flip in round to the right way it will not fit in with the rest of our footage, which wouldn’t make the music video very good.

Behind the scene with Luna lux: Day 2

This is behind the shots day two. This time we filmed in Grace’s garden as this would be more appropriate, so getting everything set up and would make it easier for us. Again this would be something that we can put on our website as fans are always egger to see what happened behind the scene of the new music videos.  It was difficult filming in her garden as we had to make sure that we didn’t get any of the houses in or any other aspects of her garden apart from the tea party.  We hope this shows how much work went into filming this music video, and how we constructed everything

Behind the scene with Luna lux: Day 1

This is behind the scene with luna Lux day 1. We wanted to show our audience how we made the music video, and what locations they were filmed at. This would be a good clip to put on the website as it will give the audience more to watch and more things to do on there. Overall filming this day went really smoothly as we got all the shots that we needed to do and more, which means that it would give us more to work with if some shots did not turn out that great.

First Edit - Luna Lux

This is our first draft of the post production of our music video. We know that it is still really rough and some shots are still quite long, but this gives us an idea of what we have achieved and what we need to do to go back and improve. For example we saw that our artist is very emotionless when she sings, to contrast this when we film our concept shots, we can have the singer being more passionate about the song which will give the music video a good variation. From having this already we can ask our target audience what they think of it, to see if we have got the message that we wanted over, and if it fits the song genre of it. The start of the song was quite hard as we weren’t quite sure how to start it as we had different ideas of what we should have but also, it goes straight in to the lyrics which means that we do not have time to build up the shots.

Initial shot placement

This is our initial shot placement. This is used to help us plan where we are going to put certain performance, narrative or concept shots. Our song is mainly split in to two parts. The first part is the showing that the artist doesn’t want to conform to society, while the second part is what the artist sees as her Eden and how they clash. This will hopefully keep the audience intrigued with our music video, so they can watch all of it without getting bored. The song lyrics at some parts are very repetitive, but the music that goes with it changes throughout the song making it different each time. This is where we will like to place our concept shots as it will keep the video interesting.
From creating this, it will be really helpful when our group is at the post production stage, because then we know roughly where certain types of shots should be placed. However, this will also help with the shooting schedule because, we know what order we should film, so we shall film the first part first, this will make the placing the shots easier on the editing software because, we can sort out that part first to when we are happy, or to see if we need to go back and re film.

Research on Costume

This is our first research on the costume that we are going to use within our video. We defiantly wanted her to wear white as this will make her stand out from everyone and it represents the purity in her that she doesn’t what to conform to society. We decided that one outfit was going to be a long flowy dress with flowers. This will be used in the London filming area because, this will make her stand out more and really emphases her star image. This will then juxtapose with her second outfit of a white short dress with gold accessorise. This will be used in the tea part shots because, it we will that she has more freedom and is less covered up. The gold is used to make her look more modern, and it is very bold which reflects her character.

Research on Props

This is my first type of research on the main props that we will use within our video.  The three main props are animal masks, powder paint and teacups. These all symbols that will represent the main theme of the music video, which is not wanting to conform to society.  This is a message that we want to be very clear so we need to make sure that all of our mise-en-scene always links back to this theme. Props are very important to think about because, it will add to what the artist is about. For example the tea cups will be vintage to help give more of a star image for her.

Creating our star image

From thinking up what are artist is going to be like, it will be easier for us to develop her more with what she looks like and how she will act, throughout the music video. This will hopefully make marketing easier because, we know how we can market her to her target audience, for example she is a nature lover which means that she will be more appealing to hippies and such. From her style this links into with her personality because she is very relaxed her style is effortless. This means that when we plan with what she is wearing it needs to all be linked back with what she is like as a person and what her general style is. Her inspirations were very important because, it shows where she has come from and what show wants to develop like. This is something that should be thought of overtime as the artist develops and matures.

Research on Hairstyles

This is the first hair tutorial that I looked at for our hairstyle. I liked this a lot as braids are really good for the boho look and really emphases her indie look. This is something that we defiantly want to get across to our audience. This makes it important make sure that are star image is created. This is something I can do myself which means it will be easy to do on our artist.

This is another braid inspired hair style.  This would be a good style because, it is another boho look which will emphases her style to the audience, and it will suit the artist really well.

This is the simplistic style of hair that we can do with no straighteners or anything. This means that if we cannot do the others then we can defiantly do this one.

These are all a mixture of pictures that would be really good for our hair styles. Flowers will be a key theme throughout or performance which means that her hair will hair flower bands in them, which will all add to her star image.

Research on Make-up

This is a very detailed tutorial for the type of make-up that we wanted, as it explains what type of make-up we need and the shade and it shows us how to apply it. This will be really useful when we have to do our artists make up. This will make her look more believable as the artist.

This is another example of how we want our make up for the artist. This video seems a lot simpler which means that if we can not to the other one the we have another way that we can fall back on, making sure that we get the style that we want.

These are a mixture of photos that show what we want our artist to look like. Dark eyes and dark lips, but the rest is very natural.  This is the boho look that the artist will have overall, and these pictures will give a good example of what our artist should look like in the end.

Audience Questionnaire For Artist Name

For us to come up with the best name for our artist, we made a short questionnaire, where we asked our target audience three question;

1.       Do you think an artist’s name is important?

2.       When looking at our artist, which names do you feel suits her the most? (we held up a picture of our artist, and the names that they had to choose from were, Luna Lux, Ivory Rose and Nylar Rose)

3.       What type of music genre do you think she creates when hearing her name?

We found out that an artist’s name is very important as it can attract the audience to come listen to her and invites them in.  The most liked name was Luna Lux as it was very different and suited the artist the most. This was really important to us, as we wanted to make it as believable as we could. Lastly her name automatically links in with the music that she creates as well, which will also help to attract listeners.

Research on Location

This is a collage of Regents Park in London. We thought that this would be a really good place to film some shots for our video because; it’s in the main city where society likes to wonder about. This means by having are artist there she will stick out more and the song is about not wanting to conform to society which means that this message will be more obvious to the audience. Also as it autumn the colours on the trees will be a nice orange/ red colour which would juxtapose with her dress nicely making her stand out. This park is very nature based so there will be lots of flowers and lakes where we can get good shots, where her star image will be created to show that she is very nature based.

These pictures are a mixture of Bond Street, Oxford Street, Regent Street and Embankment. These are possible locations for us to film our time lapse shot where she has people who are confining to society around her, and she will be in the middle wearing completely different clothes showing that she wants to get out. This would be good places as they are very popular which means there will be loads of people around to make sure the shot looks good. The problem with this location is that people may react weirdly to being filmed which could ruin the shot.

Lastly this is a picture of the schools swimming pool, this is because we wanted to see if we could do some underwater shots or her laying on top of the water. This would add to her star image of being nature based. The problem that we are having is that we wanted a pool that without any titles or lines on the bottom, this would help to make the shots look more believable and professional. From looking at different pools this could be a possibility of filming here, but it would mean that editing this show would be harder to make it look dark and the way that we want it to.
